It was an absolute joy to welcome Charlene into our podcast studio. A graduate of Penguin Random House's Write Now mentoring scheme and a former parenting blogger, her debut novel The Reinvention of Martha Ross is a warm and funny portrayal of a women picking herself up post-divorce.
We chatted to Charlene about how mentoring helped her, how she went about choosing the direction of her plot and where she drew the line between her own life and her heroine's. We also discussed how she created an accurate depiction of motherhood, and perhaps most importantly of all, how she committed herself to the work and got her book bloody well written.
