The Riff Raff Podcast #35: Preti Taneja

On this week's podcast we were lucky enough to chat to Preti Taneja, writer, broadcaster, political activist and now Desmond Elliott Prize nominated author of state-of-the-nation masterpiece, We That Are Young.

We discussed Preti's modern India-based retelling of King Lear. We asked how Preti was both helped and hindered by basing her book on this infamous pre-existing narrative, how she went about discussing big themes without sacrificing plot, and how she used her characters as a tool to convey political themes.

Our interview was conducted over Skype on a day a couple of weeks ago where the rain was super intense! For that reason, the very end of the podcast gets a little blurry. Sorry! We left it in for those of you with super sonic ears.
